Entry and exit The United States administers a strict entry regime and you may be refused entry if you do not comply with its entry requirements, even if you have already obtained travel authorisation under the Electronic System for Travel Authorisation (ESTA). If you are visiting the United States for business or pleasure, you may be eligible to be admitted for up to 90 days on an ESTA under the Visa Waiver Program (VWP) (more information below). If you wish to work, study, or stay for more than 90 days, you are not eligible for entry on an ESTA under the VWP and you must obtain a visa before travelling. In most cases, you will be required to attend an interview at a US Embassy or Consulate as part of the visa application process. When Brazil won the rights to host the games and the 2014 FIFA World Cup, it was considered an economic superpower courtesy of its resources, agricultural and manufacturing sectors and was the fifth-largest economy in the world. But like Australia, Brazil’s economy has been punished by the end of a mining boom as China comes off the boil. “They’re the same as us, except they’ve also had these internal structural difficulties and haven’t been able to adjust to the drop off in commodity prices,” Mr Harcourt said. And on top of everything, Zika virus is sweeping the Americas and threatens to derail the Brazil’s tourism revenue. “With the Rio Olympics, Brazilian tourism was expected to be worth 10 per cent of GDP, up from the regular nine per cent in a normal year, given the popularity of Carnival,” Mr Harcourt said. “But with Zika, if it affects Brazil in SARs-like proportions, it will shave 20 per cent off tourism income.” One million people are expected to descend on Rio for the first Olympics on South American soil in August. I would love to hear your thoughts? Would you go? Why/Why not?

The Zika virus (ZIKV) is a mosquito-borne disease, which is transmitted by some species of Aedes mosquito, particularly Aedes aegypti. These mosquitoes bite in the day, particularly around dawn and dusk. Most people who get infected with Zika virus do not show any symptoms. Only one in five people who get it will feel sick, usually for a few days. In some cases, Zika infection can cause fever, rash, severe headache, joint pain, and muscle or bone pain. Illness from Zika is usually not severe and does not require hospitalisation. There is currently no vaccine to prevent Zika virus and no specific treatment.
